In March, we gathered in East Lansing to celebrate our 2025 MCTM Outstanding Mathematics Educators at a special awards dinner!

Each honoree brings passion, creativity, and a deep commitment to student success. From building confident math learners to transforming instruction schoolwide, their work is inspiring.

The Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) is thrilled to announce the recipients of our latest round of grant funding! These outstanding educators have demonstrated a commitment to enhancing student learning through creative and hands-on math experiences.

2025 MCTM Grant Recipients:

Kelly Hemmerling (Milford High School, Huron Valley Schools) – Using 3D printing to help AP Calculus students visualize complex volume calculations.
Katie Walker (Novi Community School District) – Strengthening number sense in K-5 students with hands-on Rekenrek tools.
Annalyse Auxter (Ida Elementary, Ida Public Schools) – Engaging students in hands-on geometry activities using playdough, clay, and Makedo kits.
Allyson Boomsma (South Elementary, Coopersville Area Public Schools) – Expanding access to Kanoodle games to improve problem-solving and critical thinking.
Jessica Marcet (John Glenn High School, Bangor Township Schools) – Enhancing math engagement with color-coded resources and vertical whiteboard spaces.
Ryan Slomka (Rochester Community Schools) – Expanding the use of 3D printed manipulatives to make geometry more interactive across the district.

These innovative projects exemplify the power of hands-on learning and thoughtful instruction in mathematics education. MCTM is proud to support these educators in bringing their ideas to life and making a lasting impact on students across Michigan.
